Gairal Rest House

How to Book Dhikala Forest House

Dhikala rest house bookings are managed by Forest Department of Corbett National park which also manages booking of other forest rest house of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Around the year(15th November to 15th June) it remain in very high demand so guest are advised to better understand its booking procedure and limitations of booking system.

Important Points

  • Dhikala Forest Rest House is surrounded by Solar Wire Fencing but this solar wire fencing is not sufficient to keep animals at bay. At night if you come out of your room you may find deers grazing inside dhikala campus , they jump solar wire fencing and get in. In fact sometimes leopard , tiger also visit. Elephants uses branches to lower down fencing. So loitering in night is not recommended in campus.
  • Cigarette, Liquor , Pets are not allowed in any forest rest house in dhikala zone
  • Carry a pair of extra clothes as there is no laundry service in any forest rest house including dhikala zone.
  • You may miss to spot tiger, leopards , elephants from dhikala campus but those animals must be watching you so do not go out of fenced area.
  • There are watch towers in Dhikala zone which were used earlier by guest to take a panoramic view of forest. But now accessing watch tower by tourism is not allowed although forest department uses them to keep watch on activities in Jungle.
  • Safari timing vary as per season(sunrise and sunset timinning) but it last for 4 hours in morning and 4 hours in afternoon.
  • Dhikala FRH is only FRH which has resident guide, other FRH has no resident guide. A good guide and driver can give turn around in experience which is vice versa:)
  • Not all guide are birding guide so if you have bird watching agenda it is highly recommended to choose a good guide
  • Every season Dhikala has different feeling so a question “which is best time to visit Dhikala is not a valid question for Dhikala”. Like summers offer opportunity to visit across Ramganga which has a beautiful landscape in grass land lot of elephants visit. In winters magic of sun rays sprinkling through towering sal trees , ground in morning and mist over ramganga makes that place paradise.
  • If one is reaching after 3 pm at Ramnagar there is possibility he or she not able to enter in forest of Dhikala..Perhaps reason is as it takes around 1 hour for Ramnagar to Dhangarghi gate and then 2 hours for Dhangarghi gate to Dhikala FRH so by that time guest reaches at Dhikala FRH it may turn dark.
  • Dhikla FRH remain closed for 5 months in a year from 16th June to 14th November, if it rains early it may closed before 16th June also.
  • For potable water there is RO facility in Dhikala forest rest house alternatively you may bring mineral water from outside or purchase mineral water from canteen also.
  • There are monkeys in Dhikala campus so if you are with kids guest need to be careful. As these monkeys snatch edible items.
  • Every wing have a room attendant who can help you with cleaning of rooms, linen change , Morning tea and your general queries
  • No private vehicle are allowed to enter in dhikala zone only gypsy and driver registered with Government are allowed to enter in dhikala zone. In case driver or guide behave erratic out of forest norms they can be barred by forest department.
  • Do not leave any plastic carry bag, plastic bottle in dhikala FRH , please carry it back when you are returning to Ramnagar.
  • In case you are planning to give tip to driver or guide you shall carry cash around 2000 to 5000 in cash
  • Is there any point missing please let me know , i shall be happy to add that point :)
